Newham is an East London borough, the majority of which is located to the north of the River Thames. Just a small portion of Newham occupies territories to the south of the river. With population of 332 800, it contains some of the finest residential areas in these parts of the capital. Like all the other boroughs of London, Newham was formed after the administrative reforms of 1965. Even though Newham contains many fine places for you to choose from, you can get a pretty clear idea on what the borough is all about by simply looking at three key areas here.
Becton – the urban area you’d love to live at
The first place that we would like to focus your attention on is the district of Beckton E6, E16, IG11. The neighbourhood is to be found some 8 miles away from Charing Cross, the main terminus of London. It is characterised by the fact that the majority of the housing here was built in the 19th century, when Beckton was mostly developed. It became a rather attractive place to settle down at after the major redevelopment of the London Docklands that were carried out by the London Docklands Redevelopment Corporation in the period between 1981 and 1995. Throughout most of its history, Beckton was known as an industrial development notable for its gasworks, sewage works and being homes to quite a few people involved in the maritime trade. Today however the district is almost entirely residential in character. An interesting fact is that when Stanley Kubrick was filming Full Metal Jacket, they used the old Gasworks on Beckton as a filming location. The 1981 James Bond film, For Your Eyes Only and Michael Radford’s 1984 feature film adaptation of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four were also filmed here.
Custom House – your optimal choice
A quick walk through the area will make you start looking for a reliable removal company in Custom House to help you relocate namely here. This district is considered to be part of the town of West Ham and gets its name from the custom house at the Royal Victoria Dock that was located in the vicinity of the present day neighbourhood. At the current moment some 50 percent of the territory of the district is used for housing, with the majority of the rest of the land here being occupied by open green spaces such as:
- Newham City Farm
- King George V Park
- Vegetable allotments
- The gardens to the north of the Royal Victoria Docks
If you are worried about reaching Central London from Custom House, well do not be. The good news is that thanks to the Light Railway network, reaching any part of Greater and Central London from this location in the borough of Newham is easy and rather stress-free. Two stations are currently servicing the district – Custom House station and Prince Regent DLR station respectively.
East Ham – the comforts of your typical suburbia
In addition to being supplied with stress-free access to services that are going to make any domestic removal in East Ham E6 a rather quick and easy endeavour, East Ham quite a lot of other things to offer to you too. The district is home to well over 76 000 people today and has been identified as one of the capital’s 35 major centres by the London Plan. Looking for a house here is going to reveal that most of the buildings were developed in the style typical for the Victorian and Edwardian ages respectively. Tree lined streets and terraced houses are going to welcome you in East Ham and you will not have to worry about finding fine restaurants or stores that you would need here.
